What We Want Every Child to Know by 5th Grade
At Rivers Church, we want to do more than give kids a great Sunday morning. We want to help build a foundation of faith that will stay with them for the rest of their lives.
By the time a child finishes 5th grade, our desire is that they understand these three foundational truths:
I can trust God no matter what.
We want children to know who God is, understand how much He loves them, and learn that they can depend on Him in every season of life.
I can make wise choices by following Jesus.
We want children to know the Bible and begin using God's Word to guide their choices, relationships, and everyday lives.
I can love others the way Jesus loves me.
We want children to understand that following Jesus changes the way we treat people—with kindness, forgiveness, generosity, respect, and compassion.
Along the way, we want every child to hear and understand the Gospel, know what it means to personally trust Jesus as Savior, understand baptism, learn how to pray, become comfortable reading the Bible, worship with the church, serve others, and begin talking about their faith.
Our goal isn't simply to raise kids who know about Jesus. We want to partner with parents to help raise children who are beginning to know Jesus, trust Jesus, and follow Jesus for themselves.
Before they leave 5th grade, we want every Rivers Kid to know:
God loves me. I can trust Him. His Word guides me. Jesus saved me. And I can follow Him every day.
